Barham
(Closed)
View from the east along the former station road /across the fields to the remains of Barham Station (16th April 1963), which had been on the Elham Valley line from Canterbury to Shorncliffe. In the photograph the railway ran left to right.
This line had an unusual history, as the line was taken over by the War Office (Army) on 1st December 1940 to provide access for big rail-mounted guns to assist in the repelling of any invasion. However, a public service was maintained from Lyminge to Shorncliffe until 3rd May 1943 (goods until 1st October 1947).
Following closure, the station was made into a house. Now covered by a housing estate the area is unrecognisable today.
